Elder-Beerman Department Stores has made Dayton, Ohio it's home and corporate headquarters since the present company was founded by the 1962 merger of the Elder & Johnson Company (established in 1883) and the Beerman Stores.  In 2003, Bon*Ton Stores, Inc. acquired Elder-Beerman Department Stores.  The Elder-Beerman Stores mirrored Bon*Ton in store and customer profile, market size, and most importantly culture.  Today, Bon*Ton operates more than 270 stores in 23 states and four distribution centers.  The Company maintains a corporate location in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and continues to operate its corporate offices in York, Pennsylvania as it has since 1898.  Elder-Beerman offers a mix of moderate to better merchandise, with an emphasis on women's, mens', and children's apparel, accessories, cosmetics, and home furnishings.  The stores will provide the customer with a convenient and friendly shopping experience in a pleasant environment.  The company continues the Bon*Ton tradition, begun by their founders, Max and Daisy Grumbacher, of giving back to its communities through charitable activities and special events.   Elder-Beerman continues its community support and involvement with the following projects:

Community Day: Is a fund-raising event for all 501c3 nonprofit and school organizations with a fun and easy way to raise money for your organization.  Since 1999, the Company has raised over $48 million for schools and non-profit organizations.

Goodwill Sale: Each spring and fall, our customers are encouraged to donate gently used clothing, and in return, will earn a savings coupon for each item donated.  With the profits generated from these donations, Goodwill Industries can provide training for individuals with barriers to work in our communities.

Charge Against Breast Cancer: In September 1998, our sister stores, Carson Pirie Scott, Bergners, Boston Store, Herberger's, and Younker's, began the Charge Against Breast Cancer program to help fund breast cancer research.  Elder Beerman has a long-standing commitment to the fight against breast cancer and is looking forward to making a significant contribution to this goal
